Born Therese Byrne in Bessboro, Blackrock County Cork Ireland but I associate as a Kerry girl as my family is actually from County Kerry where they mainly are from Firies, Killarney with some in Tipperary. I immigrated to the United States when I was age four. I attended Catholic grammar school. After graduating from Mount St. Vincent’s High School in Tuxedo Park, NY I went on to SUNY Geneseo where I earned dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration and Management with a minor in Human Resources and am certified as HR Generalist and Specialist. I spent most of my career in the Human Resource field as Supervisor and as an Officer. I currently am co-owner of a business with my husband, Kenny Meyer. In addition to owning my own business, I also am a HR Consultant.
I have been married to my husband Kenny for 33 years and we are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters, Meghan Caitlin and Taylor Kathleen. I am an active parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Middletown NY.
I became an LAOH member in March 1996 and was a founding officer in the formation and in the initiation of the Orange County LAOH Board and Division 4 St. Therese. I am currently a member of Division 6 St. Ita of Orange County. From inception, I have held every position of LAOH Division & Orange County. I have devoted my time and energy these past years in serving all tasks stated for each office while availing myself to State & National Conventions and I have tried to diligently serve all my LAOH Sisters of Orange County and now NYS.
I am currently NYS LAOH Missions & Charity Officer and the Hudson Valley Organizer; I am also President of LAOH Orange County Board, New York. I am more than proud and honored to be the first elected women from Orange County to the NYS LAOH state board but also as the first Orange County LAOH elected woman to be an aide in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in NYC.
Some of the accomplishments I am proud of has been that 3 years ago starting “Orange County LAOH Special Fund” to give a helping hand to our LAOH Sisters in need. Starting the Orange County LAOH “Christmas Dinner” 15 years ago which has been able to benefit “ Local families” ”The Hudson Valley Food Bank” and “Safe Homes” and many other local charities. Co-Founder of the “Fund Raiser for Special Needs Children” which consisted of a dinner fundraiser. This annual fundraiser dinner brought thousands of dollars, which helped so many families in need throughout “Orange County”. I had hands on interaction with families in need and determined the requirements of each child while establishing how best to help the family.
Currently I serve on the American Cancer Society Board of Advisers and am ACS “Community Chair” for development & training “American Cancer Relay for life and for ten years I was chair of the Goshen Relay for Life and currently the Lead Organizer for the Orange County Bark for Life where funds are raised to help find a cure with your dogs on a walk.
