Dennis W. Simmons, age 65, of Port Jervis, NY passed away Monday, August 22, 2016 at home. He was born on April 6, 1951 in Port Jervis the son of David C. Simmons, Jr. and Kathryn E. Monahan Simmons.
Dennis worked as a Acting Deputy Superintendent Reception Classification/Senior Correction Counselor for the NYS Dept. of Corrections at Otisville, NY. Dennis graduated from Port Jervis High School with the class of 1969. He was a member of the ALL-DUSO Football Sports Writers Team 1967, 1968; the ALL-DUSO Football Coaches Team 1967, 1968 and football player of the year in 1968 DUSO Coaches Team and Sports Writers Team; President of the Varsity Club 1968-69; He was Football Player of the Year 1968-Area 845 Team, and Captain of the 1968 PJHS Football Team; He was the DUSO League Wrestling Champion 1968 & 1969; Dennis attended USMA from July 1, 1969 - February 22, 1971. He was a member of the West Point Class of 1973. He graduated from SUNY Excelsior College in 1981 earning his BS in General Studies.
Dennis served 24 years with the NY Air National Guard as a Senior Master Sergeant and Air Freight Superintendent at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, NY. His various Military Commendations include: the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terror Expeditionary medal, the Air Force Expeditionary Medal with Gold Border, the Outstanding Unit Award with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Defense Service Medal with 2 Bronze Star Attachments. He was deployed to the Middle East from 2003-2004 in support of Iraqi Freedom-Enduring Freedom. He was one of three SNCO's and three officers to run Cargo and Passenger operation for the largest US Airport in AOR. When he left he was commended by the Commander for putting the operation four months ahead of schedule.
Dennis's civic accomplishments included 13 years of coaching the Port Jervis High School Football Team; coaching four years of Port Jervis Modified Wrestling; Life member and Past Commander of the Roosa-Fleming VF W Post #161, Port Jervis; Member and Past Commander of the James C. Bilz American Legion Post #685; Coordinator of the Charles G. Croopin Memorial Scholarship; 43 year member of the Port Jervis Fire Dept; 42 year member of the Port Jervis Lodge of Elks #645; member and Eucharistic Minister of St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis; 4th Degree member of the Port Jervis Knights of Columbus, Council #471; member of Division 4, Ancient Order of the Hibernians; Aide to Grand Marshall-Mid Hudson St. Patrick's Day Parade, 2015; Life member of the Viet Nam Veterans of America; member of the Iraqi Afghanistan Veterans Assoc; member of the Board of Directors of the Hudson Valley Honor Flight and he enabled over 400 World War II veterans to fly to Washington, D.C. to see the World War II memorial; member of the Port Jervis Chamber of Commerce; member of the Neversink Valley Area Museum and Minisink Valley Area Museum; member of the Port Jervis Republican Committee, member of the Orange County Republican Executive Committee; past member of Congresswoman Sue Kelly Veterans Advisory Committee and Congresswoman Nan Hayworth Veterans Advisory Committee; past Councilman Port Jervis Common Council and Chairman of the West End Park Committee, enabling the celebration of 9/11 Ceremony in the park on September 11, 2002. He was Orange County Legislator, District 13 representing Deerpark, Port Jervis, and Mount Hope, he was appointed Commissioner of Jurors for Orange County; he was admitted to the Port Jervis High School Hall of Fame Class of 2014; Dennis held a General Class License with the Ham Radio Operators, call sign K2OKL.
Dennis's strong patriotism and love of community, was certainly demonstrated as he dedicated his life to serve and protect others. Dennis took great pleasure and pride in coaching the young men of Port Jervis hoping to not only teach them about football and make them strong players, but about life and being good citizens.
He married Carla M. Irwin Simmons who survives at home. Dennis is also survived by his daughter, Kimberly Wortman and her husband, Rick of Vestal, NY; his brothers: David Simmons and his wife, Carol of Port Jervis, Daniel Simmons and his wife, Molly of Ft. Myers, Florida, Timothy Simmons and his wife, Linda of Port Jervis; two grandchildren, Ashley and Erick Wortman, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, August 25 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY. Knights of Columbus will conduct services at 8 p.m. Firematic services will be held Thurs. evening at 8:30 p.m. Prayers will be offered 9 a..m., Friday, August 26 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis. Rev. Matthew Newcomb will be the celebrant. Interment will follow with military honors at St. Mary's Cemetery, Port Jervis.

Reverend Robert J. Greco, O.Carm., a member of the Order of Carmelites of the North American Province of St. Elias, died in Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, NY on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 after a brief illness. He was 83 years old.
Father Robert was born in West Orange, NJ on May 28, 1931 to Salvatore and Genevieve (Krott) Greco. He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Genevieve and his brother, Joseph. He is survived by four sisters: Angela, Martha, Alberta and Mary Anne and five brothers: Russell (Fr. Evan Greco, O.F.M.), Loren, John, William (Fr. Raymond Greco, O.S.B.) and Richard. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He received his habit in the Order of Carmelites, North American Province of Saint Elias in September 1949, when he entered the Carmelite Novitiate in Auburn, NY. At the conclusion of his Novitiate year he professed First Vows of Obedience, Poverty and Chastity on September 8, 1950 and on September 12, 1953 he professed Solemn Vows, also in Auburn, NY. On June 4, 1955 Father Robert was ordained to the priesthood in Sacred Heart Cathedral, Newark, NJ by His Excellency, Archbishop Thomas A. Boland, S.T.D., LL.D, the Second Archbishop of Newark.
Father Robert graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy from St. Bonaventure in Olean, NY in 1952. He then earned his M.S. in Chemistry and Physics in 1963 from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.
From 1955-1964 Father Robert taught Math and Science at Mt. Carmel H.S., Auburn, NY, where he also served as Vice-Principal. Father Robert also taught Math and Science at St. Albert's Junior Seminary in Middletown, NY from 1964-1967, during which time he also served as Assistant Provincial.
From 1967 to 1988, Father Greco served his country with honor and distinction as a U.S. Navy Chaplain worldwide, rising to the rank of Commander. He served overseas in such places as Vietnam, Japan and Sicily, as well as stateside in California, Washington and Connecticut. During his military career, Father Greco was the proud recipient of the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with FMF Insignia and four stars; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm; Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V"; Combat Action Ribbon; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon and Meritorious Service Medal. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy on January 31, 1988.
Father Robert was a proud member of Chapter 140 of the Vietnam Veterans of America, as well as American Legion Post 151. He was also the Chaplain of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 4.
From 1988 to 1998, Father Robert ministered as Chaplain at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. Upon his retirement in 1998, he moved to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Priory in Middletown, NY and continued to volunteer at Bellevue Hospital for a few years thereafter.
A dedicated and hard-working Carmelite, Father Robert J. Greco, O.Carm. was a professed member of the Carmelite Order for 64 years and a priest for 59 years. He would have celebrated his 65th Jubilee of profession on September 8, 2015. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 2nd at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. An Evening Prayer Service will be held at 8 p.m. at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 3rd at Our Lady of Mt. Kenneth R. Guinn age 85, of Milford, PA and formerly of Port Jervis, NY, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2013, at his home. Ken was born on October 8, 1927 in Port Jervis, NY, the son of the late Raymond and Irene Eck Guinn. He was a retired dock worker at Yellow Freight Trucking Co., in Maybrook, NY. Kenneth was a member of St. Mary's RC Church, in Port Jervis. He was also a member and Past Grand Knight of the Port Jervis Knights of Columbus, Council #471, and a member and Past Faithful Navigator, Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree, Assembly 460, a member of the Port Jervis Lodge of Elks, #645. B.P.O.E., and a member of the Fowler Rescue & Salvage Co. #3, Port Jervis, Fire Dept. Ken was married first to the late Julia Pelenski Hendry Guinn and second to Barbara Shea Donahue Guinn, who survives at home. He is also survived by his two sisters: Theresa Fuller of Port Jervis, and Mary Laizure and her husband, Roger of Omaha, NE; his brother, James Guinn and his wife, Joyce of Matamoras, PA; his son, James Donahue and his wife, Lisa of Milford, PA; his daughter, Marilyn Ann Peterson and her husband, Tim of Mineola, NY; two grandchildren: Katelyn and Liam Donahue; his stepson, James Hendry and his wife, Virginia of Port Jervis; two stepgrandchildren: James Hendry, Esq., and Mark Hendry, and several nieces and nephews. Reverend John Colman Logan, O.Carm., a member of the Order of Carmelites of the North American Province of St. Elias, died on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 after a long illness. He was 76 years old.
Father Jack was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 15, 1936 to Michael and Mary (Fahy) Logan. He is survived by three sisters: Margaret Franklin, Anne Corcoran and Bridget Wilson; one brother, Ronald Logan, and fourteen nieces and nephews.
After graduation from Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx in 1954, Father Jack entered the Carmelites in St. Albert's Junior Seminary in Middletown. He received his habit in the Order of Carmelites, North American Province of Saint Elias in September 1956, when he entered the Carmelite Novitiate in Williamstown, MA and received the religious name of Colman. At the conclusion of his Novitiate year he professed Simple Vows of Obedience, Poverty and Chastity on September 15, 1957. He professed his Solemn Vows on September 15, 1960 and was ordained to the priesthood on May 27, 1964 in Middletown, NY.
He graduated from St. Bonaventure University, Olean, NY with a B.A. and a Masters Degree in Philosophy and English and in 1964 finished his Theology at Whitefriars Hall in Washington, DC.
Father Jack taught English and Theology in Nativity B.V.M. High School in Pottsville, PA (1964-1965), Mount Carmel High School in Auburn, NY (1965-1970), McQuaid Jesuit High School, Rochester, NY (1970-1976), and St. Albert's Junior Seminary, Middletown, NY (1977-1978), where he was also Principal. Father Jack was Head Catholic Chaplain at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan from 1978-2007.
He also served as Prior at Whitefriars Priory in Rochester, NY and Our Lady of the Scapular-St. Stephen's Priory in Manhattan. After his retirement in 2007, Father Jack moved to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Priory in Middletown, NY. In September 2011, because of illness, Father Jack moved to St. Albert's Priory in Middletown, NY, where he resided until his death.
A dedicated, joyful and hard-working Carmelite, Father John Colman Logan, O.Carm. was a professed member of the Carmelite Order for 55 years and a priest for 48 years. He was dearly loved by his family, friends and Carmelite brothers. Cherished by all, he will be greatly missed.

Michel Jude Garay

Michael Jude Garay, owner and operator of Modern Milling Feed and Supply Co in Bullville, NY, died following a short illness on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Orange Regional Medical Center. He was 78.
The son of the late Julius and Catherine Haran Garay, he was born on February 26, 1938 in the Bronx. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy from 1960-1963. He married Maryanne McGovern and they shared 55 years of marriage together. He was a regular communicant at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Middletown.
Michael was extremely active in his community over the years; he was a volunteer fireman and past Chief in Bullville since 1982 and served as chief in the early 90s. He was a member of the Hudson Valley Fireman Association, Fire Chief's Association of Orange County, FASNY and the NYS Association of Fire Chiefs. He was proud of his Irish heritage and was a member and past president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 4. Michael was the 2009 Irish American of the Year and served on the Irish Heritage Festival Committee. He loved travelling to Ireland and had great memories shared with his friends and family there. Michael had a fantastic sense of humor and lived life to the fullest with his loving wife, Maryanne.
He also loved his basset hounds and otter hounds and those relationships brought him to be a member of the Patroon Bassett Hound Club, Bassett Hound Club of America and the Otterhound Club as well a member and past President of the Wallkill Kennel Club. He showed 9 dogs to their championships
Michael was a classic car collector who was a member of the Saturday Night Cruisers in his ‘56 Chevy, his 50th birthday present from his wife which he enjoyed for nearly 30 years.
In addition to his wife Maryanne at home, Michael is survived by his brother, Daniel and his wife, Diana of Lake George, NY and his many nieces and nephews, Peggy, Colleen, Janine, Danny Jr, James, Sean, Patrick, James, Kathryn and Erin and six great-nieces and seven great nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, 70 Carmelite Drive, Middletown, NY. Fr. James Hess, O. Carm., will officiate. Burial will follow in the family plot in Gate of Heaven in Valhalla, NY.

John (Jack) Sullivan of Palm Coast, FL, entered into God's World after many years of illness. He was 75 years old and died Tuesday, April 16, 2013
Jack was born in New York City on September 6, 1937 to parents, Jeremiah and Anna Gavin Sullivan, and was raised in the Bronx. He worked in construction as a truck driver and as a Teamster Foreman, retiring from Teamsters Local 282. He owned several bars and restaurants in Mt. Vernon, NY. Jack was a disabled veteran of the US Army, serving 26 months overseas, and was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Association. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Loyal Order of Moose, and the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wurtsboro, and Santa Maria Del Mar Church of Flagler Beach, FL. Jack also enjoyed traveling with his recreational vehicle, and loved to play cards, especially Texas hold'em poker.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Patty Anne Sullivan of Palm Coast, FL; his brother, Gerald Sullivan and his wife, Margie of Toms River, NJ. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Frances Sullivan of NY, with whom he had four children: daughter, Frances and her husband, Richie; son, Jack; daughter, Mary and her husband, Nelson; son, Thomas and his wife, Margarite; including their 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends and family may gather Saturday, April 20th and Sunday, April 21st from 4 to 7 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. His funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 22nd at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 180 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with Fr. Peter Madori officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Wurtsboro.

Tom was a devoted father, brother, son and husband. He loved spending time with family and took great pleasure in sharing his fishing, skiing and barbeque talents with his children and their cousins. He had a funny sense of humor that only the family could appreciate. His job, as a Captain of the State Police was, after family, his second love. We will always remember his dedication and service to our community. He is survived by his wife Lisa; his son, Thomas IV of Mississippi; his daughter, Alyssa of Middletown; his mother, Anna; one brother, James and his wife, Lisa of Putnam Valley, and one sister, Carol Grieco and her husband, Louis of Middletown; brother-in-law, Bill and Patricia of Chester, Chris and his wife, Sherri of Tennessee, and father-in-law, Bill Wall and his wife, Toni; two nieces and nine nephews and many colleagues and friends. Reverend Alfred Isacsson, O.Carm., a member of the Order of Carmelites of the North American Province of St. Elias, died September 6, 2011 after a brief illness. He was 79 years old.
Father Alfred was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 30, 1932 to Raymond and Mae (Breslin) Isacsson. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Raymond and his sister Rosemary (Sister Mary Joel, RDC). He is survived by his brother Paul Isacsson and many nieces and nephews.
Father Alfred received his habit in the Order of Carmelites, North American Province of Saint Elias in September 1951, when he entered the Carmelite Novitiate in Auburn, NY. At the conclusion of his Novitiate year he professed Simple Vows of Obedience, Poverty and Chastity on September 8, 1952. He professed his Solemn Vows on September 10, 1955 and was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 1958 in Middletown, New York.
He earned a B.A. in Philosophy & English in 1955 and graduated with a Masters Degree in History in 1958 from St. Bonaventure in Olean, NY.
Father Alfred was a High School teacher and served as Prior of Saint Simon Stock Priory from 1964-1967. From 1967-1976 Father Alfred was a teacher and eventually Principal of St. Albert's Seminary in Middletown, NY and served as Prior of St. Albert's Priory. He was Vocation Director at the Provincial House in Maspeth, NY from 1976-1982 and also at St. Thomas Aquinas in Brooklyn, NY from 1982-1983. Father Alfred also taught at Pope John Paul II High School in Boca Raton, FL and was Supervising Principal from 1988-1991. He served as Parochial Vicar (1991-1992) and Pastor (1992-2002) at Transfiguration Church in Tarrytown, NY.
He was the Editor of "The Scapular" from 1959-1964 and has several published articles, papers and books about the Carmelites and historical figures to his credit. Father Alfred served as Provincial Archivist from 1979 until his death. He was also a member of The Lincoln Group.
After his retirement in 2002 Father Alfred moved to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Priory in Middletown, NY.
A dedicated and hard-working Carmelite, Father Alfred Isacsson, O.Carm. was a professed member of the Carmelite Order for 59 years and a priest for 53 years. He was dearly loved and cherished by all and will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 8 at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Middletown, with burial in the Carmelite Cemetery at St. Albert's in Middletown.
Douglas C. Garnham,
84, of Dublin, Ireland passed away on January 17, 2009
at his home in St. Johnsville, NY
Douglas was born in Dublin, Ireland on August 21, 1924, son of the late Thomas and Mary (Coyne) Garnham and educated by the Irish Christian Brothers. From 1946 to 1950 he served as a member of the Royal Air Force stationed in India and the Far East, returning to Ireland after his duty where he met his wife Elizabeth (Caffrey) Garnham. The pair were married on September 10, 1951 and seven years later they traveled with their children Douglas Jr., and Christine to the United States. It was in 1972 that he settled with his family(now featuring two more children - sons Mark and Emmet) in Middletown, NY Quickly, he became involved in the local community, chairing the first St. Patrick's Ball for the Irish American Club of Middletown. He became a founding member of the Friendly Sons and Daughters of St. Patrick of Orange County and was the chairman of their first dance to benefit the Mayo Foundation. Eventually, he became President of the Friendly Sons helping them to present a Festival of Irish Arts and Culture that included 14 workshops of the Gaelic Arts involving every member of the club, they produced the first production of "Siamsa", an exciting evening of Irish entertainment, at Middletown High School and initiated the Book Donation Program to school libraries in Orange County which enabled students to learn more about Ireland and her struggle for human rights.
Doug was a founding member of the Mid-Hudson Parade Committee, a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus in the Middletown Council and a member of both the American Legion and Division Four of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. It was with the AOH that he served as County Historian for all divisions serving Orange County. He was honored by the Middletown Lions Club at their St. Patrick's Day Luncheon and in 1990 he served as Grand Marshal of the Mid Hudson St. Patrick Day's Parade. In 2002 he and his wife moved to St. Johnsville, NY where he became a member of the Oppenheim Historical Society. He was a practicing parishioner of St. Patrick's R.C. Church in St. Johnsville.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, sons Douglas and wife Micki, Mark and wife Dong Ok, Emmet and wife Jennifer and daughter Christine and her husband Eamon Dolan. He has five grandchildren (Sean Lewis, Melissa Aurey, Douglas Garnham and Brian and Thomas Dolan) as well as four great grandchildren (Anthony, Tess, Katie and Brian). He will be greatly missed.
The family will receive family and friends on Friday January 23, 2009 from 6-9pm at the Enea Family Funeral Home 9 Center St. Saint Johnsville, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday January 24, 2009 at 11am at St. Patrick's R.C. Church in St. Johnsville.
Private burial will take place at the convenience of the family.

Brian P. Cunningham, a retired Recreational Therapist for the Middletown Psychiatric Center, and a lifelong area resident, entered into rest on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at his home in Middletown, NY. He was 69 years of age.
The son of the late Edwin F. and Virginia Grace Cunningham, he was born on July 7, 1941 in Cornwall, NY.
Brian was a graduate of the Monroe-Woodbury High School, Orange County Community College and Sterling University in Sterling, KS.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was a member of the Orange County Soccer Officials Association, Orange Runners Club, Middletown Elks Lodge #1097, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #544, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians Middletown Chapter.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Cunningham, at home; daughter, Ashley Roshala and her husband, Terry of Brick, NJ; son, Patrick Cunningham and his wife, Aimee of Middletown; three step-children: Alicia Erler, Melanie Bowman, and Arthur Mays, II, all of Middletown; three grandchildren: Jordan, Tyler and Madison Roshala; four step-grandchildren: Luis, Isabelle, Maddox, and Hailie "Button"; three brothers: Edwin Michael Cunningham and his wife, Barbara of Micco, FL, Sean T. Cunningham of Otisville, and Dennis Cunningham of Newburgh; one sister, Ellyn Gallantz of Jupiter, FL; nieces: Sheena Magallanes and husband, Steven, Sabrina Cunningham, Mary Bridget Bruno and husband, Charles, Barbara Kathleen Lloyd and husband, Rich, and Theresa Smith and husband, David; nephews: Edwin Cunningham, Christian Cunningham, Timothy Michael Cuningham and his wife, Hope, and Sean Paul Cunningham and his wife, Linda. Brian was predeceased by his parents; brother, Peter Cunningham.
Friends may call at the Cornelius, Dodd and Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove St., Middletown, NY on Sunday, August 1, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 2 in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 149 Cottage St., Middletown, NY, immediately followed my military honors. Cremation will take place at the Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh, NY.
Memorial contributions in Brian's name may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties Inc., 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.

John was a graduate of Greenwich High School and Siena College. He was a Past President of the AOH Orange County Board.
